Now I See

Did you love to play marbles as a kid? I sure did! My marble collection was one of my most prized childhood possessions. In fact, it still holds a place of honor in a clear glass vase on a wooden shelf in my family room.

Among my favorites were the “purees” – clear marbles of various colors and sizes you could see through. One Saturday afternoon, I was playing catch with a “puree boulder” (a very large marble). Higher and higher I continued to toss it into the air, and then catch it as it descended.

As I craned my neck after a particularly wild throw, my “puree boulder” came crashing down through my glasses, shattering the right lens, sending hundreds of tiny glass particles into my eye.

Now, I had really bad vision already; I wore coke bottle lenses. But my right eye was the better of the two. Now it was full of glass and I could not see. My father immediately rushed me to the ophthalmologist who spent the afternoon removing all those tiny little slivers of glass from my eye. And when he was done, it was truly a miracle. My eye was not blind; I could see!

When I was in my early 20’s I loved to sing along with all the songs on the radio. Aretha Franklin did a rendition of Amazing Grace that hit the air waves at the time. I liked it; I sang it. But, I didn’t have the foggiest notion of what it was about. It wasn’t until several years later when I gave my life to Christ that I understood the lyrics of that 200 year old song by John Newton.

“I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind but now I see.”

When I finally allowed Jesus to come into my life and my heart, everything became new. I was filled with joy and peace. I experienced God’s love in a deep way. And, the longing of my searching heart was finally filled.

“I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind but now I see.”

If you haven’t already, won’t you allow the great Physician to come in and restore your sight, today?
