A 17-year study that tracked more than 35,000 Iowa women middle-aged and older showed that those who consumed more than 350 mg of magnesium per day (mostly from foods) experienced about 25 percent lower risk of colon cancer over those who consumed less than 245 mg per day.

To boost your magnesium intake eat more vegetables, fruits, and whole grains. This should also lower your risk of cancer, heart disease, and obesity.
