What God Wants

Q:  How do you know what God wants you to do? How do you know what God wants you to be when you grow up? At what age would you know? Could you be too young to do stuff for the Lord?

A:  Too young? Never! There is no age requirement to do stuff for Jesus. There is only one condition—that you do it out of love for Him.

Regarding God’s will, you could leave a blank paper and pencil on your desk by night, and then check it the next morning to see if He wrote any instructions. Hey, this is not a joke; Gideon did something similar, didn’t he? (see Judges 6) But that would be too boring, though. Reality is much more exciting!

It’s like a treasure hunt. God gives you clues here and there and you put the pieces of the puzzle together. You’ll find those hints in the Bible, while praying, in what happens around you and also in church, when you talk with other Christians. God could write your life’s mission plan on that blank paper, but He usually chooses not to do it that way. Do you know why? Because He is more interested in your friendship than in the ultimate outcome of your mission. He’s like saying: “Yes, I do have many plans for you, but let’s be friends first!”

The process of knowing God’s will is an adventure. There is anticipation, excitement and lots of suspense. But the most important thing is that you get to be really close to Him, so close that the whole “plan-for-my-life” question will fade off. Being His friend will become more important for you.

And then, at that moment, when you less expect it, He will tell you. You will just know it.
