Celestial Boulevard

They are building a new freeway through my town. Recently, the city held a grand opening of sorts, to celebrate the completion of a major stretch of roadway. All were invited to attend the ribbon cutting, then merge onto the new asphalt on foot, bicycles, roller blades or skateboards. No motorized vehicles allowed! What fun!!

But soon the fun will be over and the new freeway will become a war zone. The deathly smell of exhaust fumes will pervade the air. Drivers will shoot out in front of each other without warning – then slow down! Others will never slow down to let another in, but instead will speed up! Traffic will be backed up on the on-ramps.Obstacles will dot the road like land mines – boxes, boards, even furniture will unexpectedly loom in front of speeding cars.

Like any battle ground, casualties will be observed along the way. The dead and wounded will be a constant reminder of the danger that lies ahead. Even those who arrive safely at their destination will carry battle scars – frazzled nerves, stress, exhaustion and so much neck tension, they feel they might snap.

The Way of Holiness

That’s why I’m so looking forward to the freeway in God’s ultimate kingdom. The Bible reveals a highway will be there and it will be called the Way of Holiness (Isaiah. 35:8). No lions or ferocious beasts will be found there, it says. (No mechanical predators like “big rigs” or Hummers will pose a threat either, I might add.)

According to Isaiah, the ransomed of the Lord will travel that way, singing as they go. The eyes of the blind will be opened and the deaf will hear. Those who were unable to speak will shout for joy and the lame will leap like a deer. I just can’t wait to travel that road!

Chapter 35 of Isaiah further reveals that best of all we will see the glory of the Lord, the splendor of our God.

Each of us can travel this celestial boulevard. Everyone is invited to the ribbon cutting ceremony. All are welcome who love God with their whole heart and have made their Creator the Lord of their life.
