In the End

Life is often hard. We lose loved ones, we battle health challenges, we experience financial hardships and the list goes on. If not for the hope experienced in relationship with a loving and faithful God, we might easily give up, ditch our faith and become bitter.

Psalms 112:1 says, “Praise the Lord. Blessed is the person who fears the Lord, who finds great delight in his commands.” The psalmist then talks about all the good that comes to one who experiences this type of relationship with God.

An important outcome in the life of a person who fears God and finds great delight in following His ways is found in verses 7 and 8: “He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord. His heart is secure, he will have no fear; in the end he will look in triumph on his foes.” (Emphasis added.)

What hope we find in these words! In the end, all will be well. In the end, justice prevails. In the end, “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away” (Revelation 21:4).

As friends of God, we look forward with hope to the final rectification of all the brokenness on this planet and in our lives. While we pray for all to go well for us and our families in this life our hearts are secure as we trust God’s ability to get us through the reality of living in the present tense. We look forward with hope for what is to come. Sometimes the “in the end” comes in the next hour or day. Sometimes it is in the final end when the pain of this present life is gone and we experience marvelous perfection forever.

The psalmist confidently assures us: “His heart is secure, he will have no fear; in the end he will look in triumph on his foes.” What or whom are your foes? Maybe your foe is an abusive relationship. Maybe it is stress about how you will be able to provide for your family. Maybe your foe is cancer. Wherever you are in life, whatever battles you are waging, your heart is secure when you trust in God’s ability to get you to the end when you look in triumph on your foes.

In the meantime, when surrounded by foes, remind yourself of God’s past faithfulness. Reflect on His enduring love and mercy. Fill your mind with Scriptures that give encouragement and build faith.

Now, as always, God speaks hope to our fearful hearts. We may not understand the “whys” of what we are going through, but if our hearts are secure in the knowledge that God is on our side we live fearlessly because we know that in the end He makes all things right.
