Lost in the Swamp

In April of 2010 an 11-year-old autistic girl decided to take a nature hike in swamplands near Winter Springs, Florida. After much determination Nadia was deep inside the snake/alligator infested swamp. Her parents were unaware of her departure, but once they had noticed she was gone and became aware that she wasn’t anywhere to be seen they contacted local authorities.

Her mother and father prayed for her to be found. Area churches prayed for her, but no signs of Nadia surfaced. Rescue crews searched for days to see if they could locate her whereabouts, but were unsuccessful. Where was God’s will in all of this?

Four days after her disappearance a man named James King walked into the swamp where officials were searching. Was it wise for James to go into that swamp where snakes and alligators are certainly a force to be reckoned with? Was it wise for James to trust that God would lead him in a search for Nadia Bloom?

Followed Inspiration

Mr. King was under the impression that God wanted him go find this girl. And so that’s just what he did. He followed the inspiration God was giving him via the Holy Spirit and was able to find the 11-year-old.

The Bible tells us to: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths” (Proverbs 3:5, 6).

To James King trusting in God is the wise thing to do. To him “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge….” (Proverbs 1:7).

The chief of police stated, “If I never believed in miracles, I sure do now.” 1

Fortunately, the chief was wise enough to perceive the miracle for what it was and didn’t just try to explain it away with luck/chance.
