Move-in Ready

From the moment I got off the plane in Phoenix, everything revolved around my daughter Joelle getting their new house move-in ready. After 14 years in the Navy moving every three years, she and her family would finally have a home of their own.

Armed with a very long list, we began at Ikea. Although a few things were purchased, the trip was an opportunity to dream about what could be. What, when they saved up, could make each room perfect? The kids loved trying out furniture and picking out pillows and bedding. Their imaginations ran wild.

Next came trips back and forth to Home Depot and Lowe’s picking out colors for baseboards, walls, kitchen cabinets. Jake, Quinn and Kira worked at choosing just the right hues for their new rooms. Our cart was filled with the number of 8-ounce sample colors we were going to test on the walls. Just what colors would bring the most happiness, be the most calming, or inspire the most creativity?

Lot's of  Love

At the new house, two sets of grandparents worked side-by-side with our kids preparing the house. We older generation mixed in a lot of love into our work of transformation. Even though we ended up with some aches and pains, the finished product was worth taking a few Tylenol.

During the drive back to the airport, Joelle and I reminisced about the major transformation we’d made and how loved she felt for the help and how much she wished I would be able to enjoy it with her more often. It made me think about the preparations our Father is making for us.

In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also” (John 14:2, 3).

Our dreams and imaginings can’t even come close to the wonder of that home. We’ll also never be separated again by long distances and be together as a family forever with our Heavenly Father.
