Dear Mom of Babies and/or Toddlers,
They weren’t lying. And I’m here to testify.
The important women in my life over the last years have repeatedly said, “It gets easier. Nothing is harder than the baby/toddler years.” I’ve smiled and secretly thought, Whatever. School aged kids and that crazy schedule has got to be awful. And then there are the teenage years. Nope, I’m pretty sure it’s all going to be like this.
And by like this I mean wonderful and terrible and delightful and crazy and sleepless and brainless and full of joy.
My three children are each exactly two years apart. So I had a newborn, two year old and four year old. Then I had a one, three and five year old. Then… well, I’m sure you can do the math. Bottom line, I had a LOT of preschoolers home all at once. A crazy time.

They Weren't Lying
Last month, my youngest began preschool a couple days a week. And so I’m here to tell you, they weren’t lying.
Over the last weeks I’ve noticed a big difference. I’m not saying life is magically perfect with no babies or toddlers around, but I can take a shower by myself. I get to grocery shop without having to leave a half full cart in the aisle with a tantruming kid under my arm. My kids generally play together without needing me much. No one is pulling on me all the time. And they are starting to do chores!
I loved the baby stage and sometimes I miss having one on my hip. In fact, I’ve enjoyed every stage of their lives so far. But I have to say that I am loving that the world doesn’t seem to revolve around me quite as much as before. They are becoming their own people and I’m getting to remember the kind of person I want to be as well.
God gifts us with the strength that we need for each day. And there are days when I’ve needed a lot gifts! But it’s wonderful to know that this too shall pass… into another wonderful season.
“There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens”  (Ecclesiastes 3:1).
