As far back as I can remember, I've always loved the Olympics. Watching the torch as it makes it's trek around the globe, the colorful flags parading through the Olympic stadium, the smiles and joy stamped on the faces of all the athletes as they anticipate their competitions, and the moments that all of us get to share enjoying the spirit of togetherness, as we watch the events unfold.

Too often in this sinful world, we are inundated with tragic news headlines, divided political talk shows, crisis and wars that pit nation against nation, people against people. We become jaded, unnerved, and depressed with the constant flow of negativity.

Jesus, as he traveled from village to village spreading the word of God, often ran into opposition and negativity from a wide array of organizations and individuals, yet through it all, His message of togetherness and love shone through. People from all walks of life, with all kind of problems and proclivities came together to listen to Jesus as He taught hope, love of fellow man and woman, and the spirit of working together.

Positive and Uplifting

The Olympics are great because they allow the nations and peoples of the world to put whatever differences and problems they may have aside and come together for a few weeks of friendly competition and peaceful togetherness. It's a nice break to be able to sit and watch something positive and uplifting for a few weeks, and gain a little insight of heaven at the same time. People living together in harmony. It is no secret that peace thrives when we love one another, for Jesus taught us to love one another, and through that love, others will see God.

“Go in peace, for we have sworn friendship with each other in the name of the Lord, saying, ‘The Lord is witness between you and me, and between your descendants and my descendants forever’” (1 Samuel 20:42).
