Try these simple ideas for boosting your immune system during the coming cold and flu season:

Eat plenty of antioxidant-packed produce. Reduce sugary treats, refined and processed foods. 

Include astragalus—a Chinese herb known for its immune boosting, vitality-strengthening, and anti-viral properties. It’s often made into teas and soups or found in extract or capsule form. 

Try echinacea, which has a long history of use in preventing and treating colds and infections. It works best when taken at the first sign of infection. 

Add fresh or dried medicinal mushrooms such as shiitake, maitake, and reishi to soups or stir-fries. 

Guard your shut-eye. Restful sleep releases powerful immune-enhancing compounds. Your body slows its production of disease-fighting white blood cells when you don’t get enough sleep.
