Mustard Seed Faith

Not long ago, I met a friend of mine who I had not seen in about eight months. He told me that he had lost his job and was having a difficult time providing for his family. He had been the general manager of a prestige car dealership in Central Florida.

Recently, he had gone to a county food office to get some groceries for his family. He arrived at 4:30 a.m. and  was one of the first 10 people in line. When he finally got to the counter the lady explained to him that because he lived in another county he could not get food at this office.

Of course he was disappointed and somewhat mad, but he said that he had faith that he would find food at the  office in the correct county. He went to that office and waited more than five hours to get the food items. He says that he had to ignore his feelings of fear and rely on what he knew God had promised.

Jesus said, "if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘move from here to there,’ and it will move" (Matthew 17:20). A mustard seed is a very small thing. It is just a little bit bigger than the dot or period we use in a word document to finish a sentence. But when it’s planted, it grows into a huge tree. In the same way, Jesus is saying that a little bit of faith can bring tremendous results! Jesus gives us enough faith to overcome any obstacle.

Stop and be Quiet

God is constantly planting seeds of hope and victory in our lives. He’s constantly trying to deposit His faith inside of us. Often times, when we’re anxious and worried, it’s difficult to hear His voice of hope and confidence. But when we stop and quiet ourselves, when we find rest in Him, we will recognize His voice of hope. As we receive His hope, it creates a foundation for faith to rise inside our hearts.

The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead actually dwells in us! We may not see how, but all we have to do is believe God and declare that God is working behind the scenes in our lives. As we act on our mustard seed faith, we’ll see it grow stronger and stronger.

Do you have mustard seed faith today? Make the decision right now to open your heart and allow the Lord to deposit His hope and His faith in you. The Bible says, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4;13).
