Jesus Corner

OK, so that’s a pretty intriguing title, and you may be wondering what a Jesus corner is. But I’ll bet that many of you may already know.

It’s no great revelation to say that in this modern world we are all faced with moments (some short and some extensive) when we feel alone, abandoned, afraid, angry, frustrated, or a host of other emotions coming at us. At these times, we have various options of how to respond. I have found that my favorite response is to run to Jesus. Yes, that’s right, run to my Jesus corner. This may be a figurative corner or an actual “corner” where I can step back and talk to Jesus.

Worry Creeps In

The music duo, the Carpenters, sang, "Funny but it seems I always wind up here with you…run and find the one who loves me." The Carpenters, I’m sure, had a romantic meaning to the words, and I have often applied the sentiment to my husband. But I also think of Jesus. Life hits us. Worry tries to creep in. Responsibilities mount. But at those moments, we can run to a Jesus corner, praying for strength for the task and thanking him for being there just when we needed him.

I can’t say that I’m always wise enough to run to the Jesus corner, but I’m learning that the more often I do, the more often I want to go back! There’s peace there, no matter what the world is doing. Do you have a Jesus corner? If not, maybe you would like to find one. As the old gospel song says, "Brighten the corner where you are." Any corner will be brighter if Jesus is there.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28).
