You’ve probably heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But maybe you just don’t have time for it…or you don’t feel hungry in the morning. If you’re not currently much of a breakfast person it may help to review the facts and look at some quick and easy ideas for breakfasts.
Eating a nutritious breakfast helps you:
1. Maintain muscle. You’re in a catabolic state when sleeping. Eating breakfast stops muscle breakdown.
2. Boost your metabolism. Eating breakfast increases the amount of calories you burn, helping fat and weight loss.
3. Avoid hunger. You’ll be less hungry the rest of the day, and therefore less likely to overeat later.
Regularly eating a healthy breakfast also gives your body the energy it needs to get up and go, go, go. It helps to increase your level of productivity throughout the entire morning.
Don’t make the mistake of calling doughnuts and coffee “breakfast.” And it’s usually better to eat at home than “drive through” because it costs less and you’re more likely to get low-fat, nutrient dense foods.
To reap the most benefit from eating breakfast you need to focus on nutritious foods like fresh fruits, plant proteins and whole grains.
Here are a few ideas:
Ready-to-eat high fiber cereal
Peanut butter on a banana
Whole wheat toast or bagel
Oatmeal, grits, etc.
100% fruit juice
A few raw almonds or other nuts
None of these items take more than a few minutes to prepare. And if you’re just not hungry in the mornings…try eating less in the evenings. You can gradually train your body to look forward to making breakfast the most beautiful meal of the day!
