Centuries of dedicated use backs up chamomile's credibility as a cure-all for menstrual cramps, insomnia, skin irritations, and stomachaches.

Now a small study of men and women who drank five cups of chamomile tea daily for fourteen days seems to support the herb's claim to fame. Two notable substances—hippurate, a product released by bacteria-fighting compounds in plants, and the amino acid glycine, which seems to relax nerves and ease muscle spasms—turned up in high concentrations in the tea drinkers. When the volunteers stopped the test, levels of these chemicals remained elevated for as long as two weeks.

Sipping one or two cups of chamomile tea daily just may be enough to do battle with what ails you!
