Taking Action Today

“If you say, "See, we did not know this," does He not consider it who weighs the hearts? And does He not know it who keeps your soul? And will He not render to man according to his work?” (Proverbs 24:12). This is a very powerful passage that can take on two meanings depending on your perspective. For someone that knows little about the Bible and Jesus, this passage is promising and comforting. However, to someone that knows much about the Bible and Jesus but is not living to their potential, this passage can be convicting.

This Bible verse tells us to make no excuses and to use the knowledge God has given us today. While both perspectives are worthy to be talked about, I want to focus on the second perspective and how it relates to taking action today.

As Christians, we cannot use this passage as an excuse because we already know the Bible truth. Granted, we may not know and understand every truth in the Bible but He will still hold us accountable for the things we do know. We can’t fret over our past mistakes nor can we talk about changing our lives in the future. We have to pay attention to our actions now. It is so easy for a Christian to condemn people that do not believe like they do. It is so easy to sit back and watch the world pass us by and point out the mistakes of others. It is so easy to just be an observer or a pew warmer gossiping about others.

Watch the World Pass By

I just want to say, let God worry about other people, we need to worry about ourselves. It’s time to live in the present. It’s time to take action in our own lives and obey what God is telling us. “Today, if you would hear His voice, do not harden your hearts” (Psalm 95:7, 8).

There is one thing that all the saints, prophets, and heroes of the Bible had in common—they all took action. They weren’t afraid to step out in faith. They didn’t say I’ll do it tomorrow. They didn’t say they have failed in the past so there is no point in changing now. No, they took action! Taking action is the key to living in the present. Taking action is the key to obeying Jesus. Taking action is the key to the kingdom of heaven. Taking action is not legalistic it is ordered by God (James 2:26). If we do nothing with what we have we will then be called a wicked servant and be despised by God (Matthew 25:26). Therefore, we must take action and be careful to always do the Lord’s will.

Simply put, taking action is responsibly using the knowledge God gives you. In other words, we should live as though Jesus were coming today. As a matter of fact, Jesus is on His way! Be ready!
