Thankful Perspective

The last few months have been a time of transition for my family. My husband took a job from a friend so that we could move closer to my family before I gave birth to our second child. We were happy about this job because we were going to be able to live near at least one of our families. But the job was not really enough income for our soon to be family of four. We expected to find a better suited job a few months after the move.

In fact everything was set up perfectly for my husband to find a new job. He was hired with the expectation of leaving for higher paying work. We decided it was alright to let go of our pride for a few months and seek government assistance to make sure we had plenty to eat and healthcare for our kids and my pregnancy. My parents helped us out as much as they could as well.

Months went by and there still was not another job. We both began to feel fairly frustrated with our situation.

Tithe or Lunch

Then one day I was driving home from the grocery store, feeling bad about how much the food I had just bought cost, when I heard a lady on a Christian radio station talking about how her family had trusted in God for their survival. She mentioned that her husband had lost his job and they had decided not to pay tithe because it was between paying tithe and eating lunch that day. When they got to church the sermon was about tithe and they felt like they needed to give all they had left that day. The next day they received a check in the mail for some money another family owed them for some reason.

I began to feel extremely foolish. What was I complaining about? My husband has a job and we are making things work even though this season has been a scary adventure. I just needed a new perspective.

" 'Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,' says the Lord Almighty, 'and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it' " (Malachi 3:10).
